Details about my experience and employment presented in a more traditional way.

University of Alaska Fairbanks

I manage a highly collaborative team of 20 program managers, instructional designers, media producers, animators, marketing personnel, and student employees. My ability to lead strategic institutional change and create scalable growth are visible through some of our more recent innovations:

  • The creation of AlaskaX, a consortium partnership with edX, with a growing list of courses and programs and more than 20,000 enrollments in the first year.
  • The construction and integration of institutional, no-code relational databases in conjunction with a variety of user interface tools to facilitate change management and data-driven decision making across the institution.
  • Delivery of more than 500 hours of training and support in the last year aimed at improving the teaching practices of our faculty.
  • A pilot and implementation of Canvas as our preferred LMS while continuing to administer Blackboard, Google Classroom, edX, and open WordPress platforms.
  • The construction of 3 full-service media studios and a one-button studio, each offering media production, editing, and captioning support to faculty.
  • The launch of our Open initiative with an “OER Innovation Quest”, increasing the use of OER and no- or low-cost materials, lowering the financial burden of a degree for many students.

Additionally, my team’s role in supporting the design and delivery of high quality, online curriculum includes these notable metrics:

  • Creation of nearly 50 online degree and certificate programs (up from only 2 programs in 2013)
  • Design and delivery of approximately 1,500 fully asynchronous online courses in the 20/21 academic year (up from only 882 courses in the 17/18 academic year)
  • Delivery of more than 9 fully scaffolded, faculty development programs and workshops to advance quality and innovation in teaching (up from only 1 program in 2013)
  • Publication of iTeachU (a stand-alone pedagogy resource with more than 100,000 pageviews each year) weekly teaching tips and a monthly newsletter to communicate advances and research in teaching.

In this role, I represent the provost in encouraging sound pedagogical practices at UAF. As the founding partner of the Faculty Accelerator, I created a one-stop-shop for faculty development & improvement opportunities with decentralized partners from across campus. This faculty development center features:

  • Shared calendars for UAF-wide faculty development
  • Design and maintenance of a one-stop-shop website for faculty
  • Deployment of a faculty survey used to drive our program planning
  • New faculty orientation and mentoring initiatives
  • Attendance at Stanford’s d.school Teaching & Learning Studio and current initiative to bring Innovation Fellows to UAF

UAF eCampus

I was initially hired as an instructional designer but soon found a leadership role leading my team in scaling up the number of programs that support innovative teaching efforts across the university. To that end, some of my more notable initiatives were:

  • Double Robotics program, VR, & AR Research
  • Established the CITE Fellows innovation program
  • Certification for the first group of Google Apps for Education Certified Trainers in Alaska
  • Complete redesign of iTeachU, Alaska’s most extensive online teaching resource
  • Created 9 new, scaffolded faculty development programs, serving roughly 500 faculty each year
  • Spearheaded and organized three statewide annual Google Summit conferences
  • Organized two statewide iDesign Conferences
  • Established the eCampus Technology Loan Library
  • Initiated the implementation of our first full-service media studio and its staff
  • Expanded the design team and invested in professional development and leadership training.

As an Instructional Designer, I supported faculty in developing curriculum, created engaging interactive learning experiences, and designed media-rich online courses.
